The AI Gap Series — Part 3

Seventy-three percent.

That is how much more likely an organization is to succeed with an AI initiative when structured change management leads the implementation, according to Prosci's research on change outcomes. We have written about the Workflow Orchestration Gap and the Infrastructure Orchestration Gap in recent weeks. Both generate visible failure signals — stalled workflows, brittle systems. The third gap does not.

We call it the Human Adoption Orchestration Gap, and it is the quiet one. When infrastructure fails, it produces an outage report. When a workflow fails, it produces a support ticket. When adoption fails, it produces neither. Employees simply route around the new tool, quietly revert to the old process, and the organization never learns why the investment underperformed. The technology worked. The people were never brought along.

Gartner I&O research found that 72% of AI pilots fall short of delivering measurable ROI. We would suggest the Human Adoption Gap explains more of that number than most boards currently recognize.
